Schureman lives and works in Barneveld, NY, with her husband and a variety of
family pets. A native of Princeton, NJ, she originally came to the area in 1972
as a student at Utica College. She studied art at Oneonta State University, and
was among the first students to complete the Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute’s
accredited full time degree program in Utica, NY. Ms. Schureman has enjoyed the many benefits of living on the family dairy farm, which is located in the foothills of the Adirondacks. The pastures, woodlots, gardens and lakes of the area have provided her endless subjects to paint. She has also had the good fortune to paint for 17 years on Monhegan Island, Maine. After many years of working in watercolor Ms. Schureman has discovered the vibrancy and subtlety of color interaction which can be achieved through the use of soft pastels. While still working in watercolor and pastels she also explores a variety of methods which incorporate the use of wet and dry media on hand made supports. More recently she has been constructing her paintings from pieces of her photographs along with rice papers, acrylics, watercolors and pastels. This summer she received 1st place in the Master's Division for the Regional Show at the Adirondack Art Center in Old Forge, NY. In addition to painting, Ms. Schureman enjoys writing, gardening, photography, knitting, yoga and cooking. All images copyright ©2006, Rosette Schureman, All Rights Reserved |
